They can take away your water at airport security, but they cannot take your thermos. I bring mine every time I travel, along with a few Choice Tea Peppermint tea bags. It makes long airport layovers a little more bearable, especially in winter trips.

You can ask for free hot water at any airport Starbucks, or in the plane as well.
